Halls of residence

Where you live is a really important part of your life as a student and onsite student accommodation will help you settle into student life quickly and succeed on your course.

Guildford is an excellent place to live and study and with just over 100 residents on our picturesque country campus, Merrist Wood provides a supportive community for students living away from home for the first time. All students studying a course at Level 2 or above, including degree-level programmes are welcome to apply for a place. Some halls are exclusively for students aged 16-18 years. Students in halls who are under the age of 18 must go home each weekend.

Facilities & Life At Merrist Wood College

Facilities

The Halls of Residence, Woodlands, Cobbetts, and Merrist Wood House Annexe at Merrist Wood, provide secure accommodation for students and is staffed 24 hours a day by the Accommodation Team.

All rooms are furnished with a single bed and mattress, desk, desk chair, wash basin, bedside cabinet, notice board and wardrobe. Wi-Fi is available in all areas within the Hall of Residence. The communal area includes shared showers, toilet and sitting room facilities. Each sitting room/kitchen area is equipped with a kettle, toaster, panini maker, fridge, microwave and television. There is limited accommodation with self-catering facilities for students over the age of 18 who wish to stay for 7 nights.

Life at Merrist Wood

Merrist Wood is a quiet, peaceful and beautiful space to study and live. There is a fantastic community feel, with regular on-site social events organised by the wardens.  Situated just four miles from Guildford town centre, there is plenty to do!

The Halls of Residence are only three miles from Guildford College and the bus service from the main road will take you to Stockton Road which is a short walk to the college. There is a gym onsite and you can join via their website.

Woody’s is the main social area on campus and is open Monday to Friday for all students until 5pm. Woody’s Den and hall are open to residential students from Sunday to Thursday evenings from 5pm until 10:30pm. Residential students have use of a pool table, table tennis, PS4, Wii and much more.

Fees

Your accommodation fees include meal provision, all bills (gas, electric, water), Wi-Fi internet connection and 24-hour support and security

Application Process

If you’re ready to apply, please make sure you have checked what accommodation package best suits your needs.

Email the Accommodation Office at email halls@activatelearning.ac.uk to make an application.

You will then be invited to the accommodation interview. This includes a tour of the accommodation and facilities on campus and gives you the opportunity to meet some of the Accommodation Team. For those under the age of 18, parents/guardians must also attend the interview.

After a successful interview, an offer will be made. Students who are offered a place must pay a non-refundable booking fee of £60 to secure their place.

Nearer the start of term, you will receive a letter with a moving in date and time. On arrival, policies and procedures will be explained and you will be given your keys and shown to your room. After dinner there will be a welcome meeting, tour of the campus and some fun activities to help you get settled in.
