FUNDING YOUR HIGHER EDUCATION JOURNEY

We offer financial support to help with the cost of studying at college, for students who need it most.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU WITH THE COST OF COLLEGE

At Activate Learning, we understand that paying for your education can be challenging.

Tuition fees, study materials, travel, and internet access – it all adds up. That’s why we’ve made it easier to apply for financial support.

What’s available?

For eligible students, we offer bursaries and a study support fund to help with course-related expenses.

These are grants, not loans – you don’t need to pay them back.

The money is paid directly to you, so you can use it in the way that supports you best.

What happens after I apply?

Our bursary panel meets every Thursday during term time, starting in September 2026.

We aim to give you a decision within 10 working days (not including weekends or bank holidays), once we’ve received all the information we need.

You may be eligible for more than one type of support.

Not sure which fund is right for you?

HE Study Support Fund

At Activate Learning, we understand that unexpected costs or financial difficulties can make it harder to stay focused with your studies.

The HE Study Support Fund offers extra financial help to students on higher education courses who are facing increased or unforeseen expenses during their studies.

This is a grant, not a loan – you don’t need to pay it back. It’s here to support you and help you succeed.

What can the fund help with?

You can apply for help with things like:

  • Childcare while you study
  • Study materials (books, stationery, equipment)
  • Digital tools, including software or a laptop
  • Support needs (e.g. dyslexia assessment or learning support)
  • Essential travel costs – but only if your circumstances have changed unexpectedly (e.g. you’ve moved, or your course location has changed)

This list isn’t exhaustive – if you’re unsure, just ask us.

HE Maintenance Bursary

The HE Maintenance Bursary gives you extra financial support while you study with us. You can use this money for whatever you need – such as help with rent, travel to campus, food, or other everyday costs.

HE Carers' Bursary

This bursary provides extra financial support for students who have unpaid caring responsibilities.

HE Care Leaver Bursary

This bursary is for students who have been in care or are estranged from their families.

Prior HE Qualification Bursary

The Prior HE Qualification Bursary gives extra financial support to mature learners returning to Higher Education who already hold a degree or equivalent qualification.

It is for students who are not eligible for standard Student Finance England support for their course because they already hold an equivalent or higher qualification.

You can use this money to help with essential study-related living costs while you study, such as rent, travel, food or other day-to-day expenses.

Single Parent Bursary

The Single Parent Bursary gives extra financial support to students who are single parents and have sole responsibility for a dependent child.

It is designed to help reduce childcare-related financial pressures and support you to balance study, work and parenting responsibilities.

You can use this money to help with everyday costs while you study, such as childcare, rent, travel, food, or other essential costs.
