This course starts by looking at the underpinning principles of Big Data. You will learn about  

  • The use of big data and visualisation for decision making  
  • Statistical and graphical techniques, tools and industry software solutions for big data and visualisation  
  • The use of industry software to manipulate data and prepare visual presentations for a given data set 
  • The role, responsibilities and challenges for data specialists. 

You will also gain insight into data analytics, including: 

  • The theoretical foundation of data analytics that determine decision making processes in management or business environments  
  • Descriptive analytic techniques to convert data into actionable insight using a range of statistical techniques  
  • Predictive analytic techniques to discover new knowledge for forecasting future events  
  • Prescriptive analytic methods for finding the best course of action for a situation. 

Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of the course, you will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of digital technology and cyber security
