Construction Management Introduction (Higher Education Short Course)

This course forms part of the Higher Technical Qualification so you can be assured that the knowledge and skills you will gain are aligned to current industry needs.  It also meets the Construction Design and Build Technician occupational standard.

This course starts by looking at the contemporary construction environment enabling you to gain a strong foundation in construction technology and industry practice. You will: 

  • Understand key construction terminology and how it is used in practice 
  • Learn how substructures and superstructures are designed and built 
  • Explore how construction projects respond to different site conditions 
  • Understand how building services such as water, power and heating are integrated 

You will also develop an awareness of the wider industry, including: 

  • The roles of professionals and how they work together 
  • The economic and social impact of construction 
  • How quality, safety and timely delivery are managed 
  • The career pathways and progression opportunities available 

…enabling you to develop a solid understanding of the construction upon which you can build your future career and/or further study. 

Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of the course, you will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of construction. You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to key areas of construction.
